Little Presents from the Sea

Ah, December beach combing! Frozen fingers, wind burned cheeks and a dog covered in sticky burrs and bits of dry seaweed, but it was completely worth it. We’ve had a number of storms lately, lovely for churning up the beach. We were rewarded with lots of colourful glass and pottery shards, to be added to the winter’s stock to carry us through until spring.

And another surprise, I found a sterling silver ring, oxidized and mishapen from its sea adventure.  Its got a lovely pattern, and is likely handmade judging from the kind of messy soldered joint. My daughter fell in love with it and wants me to pound it back into shape for her. A Christmas gift from the sea.

What a great incredible find…conjures imaginings just like sea glass, where did it come from, who owned it, etc…love that kind of treasure. Perhaps it was given to a mermaid by a heartsick sailor, then when found out by Neptune..he made the mermaid toss it to the currents to be carried away and lost for ever. You never know.
    Happy Hunting.

Could be, Deborah! I won’t tell my daughter that though, or she will probably want to put it back :)
